LeBron James Completes Second Straight Pain-Free Practice as Lakers Eye Return

LeBron James logged another full, pain-free practice session with South Bay, pushing him closer to a mid-November return as the Lakers continue to monitor his recovery from sciatic nerve issues.

LeBron James took another major step toward his season debut on Thursday, completing a second consecutive practice without any pain — a strong indicator that the Los Angeles Lakers could soon have their superstar forward back in action.

James joined the South Bay Lakers for a full-contact session, including five-on-five work, and reported zero soreness afterward, according to ESPN. Earlier in the week, a workout had produced discomfort on his right side, but that setback appears to be behind him.

The Lakers have taken a cautious approach with the 40-year-old, emphasizing controlled intensity and next-day monitoring as he recovers from sciatica. Using the G League affiliate has allowed him to ramp up contact without the demands of an NBA game environment.

Under South Bay head coach Zach Guthrie, James went through live scrimmage sequences, conditioning drills, and half-court execution reps — all without any setbacks.

The positive update comes at a crucial moment. Even after a rough loss to the Thunder, confidence in LA’s upside remains high — and James’ progress only strengthens that optimism.

Last season, LeBron averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists, proving he remains one of the league’s most complete players. The Lakers view his return as a stabilizing force and a needed boost as they continue their long road trip.

Still, the team plans to remain conservative and avoid any risk of setback. A mid-November return continues to be the internal expectation, though the medical team will make the final call.

For fans, and for a locker room that’s been grinding through injuries, Thursday’s practice brings something concrete: momentum.
