Jake LaRavia shows his love for the Lakers in a way fans don’t forget

In a league dominated by fashion statements and luxury brands, Lakers forward Jake LaRavia made a simple but powerful gesture that revealed just how much playing for Los Angeles truly means to him.

The NBA has long become a runway. Before and after games, players regularly turn tunnels into fashion shows, wearing high-end designer pieces that cost more than most fans’ cars. Former Lakers like Russell Westbrook, D’Angelo Russell, and Kyle Kuzma have all become style icons in their own right, while stars such as LeBron James continue to blur the line between athlete and global celebrity.

That’s why Jake LaRavia stood out for an entirely different reason on Friday night.

Instead of designer labels, the Lakers forward spoke to the media wearing a fan-style Lakers jacket — not team-issued warmups, not luxury fashion, but something unmistakably rooted in fandom. It was a subtle moment, but one that didn’t go unnoticed.

And it revealed something deeper.

A lifelong Lakers fan living the dream

LaRavia isn’t just playing for the Lakers — he’s playing for the team he grew up loving.

Born in Pasadena, just minutes from Los Angeles, LaRavia comes from a family of Lakers fans. Now in his fourth NBA season and his first with the Lakers, the 24-year-old is living out a childhood dream.

Following the Lakers’ win over the Memphis Grizzlies early Saturday morning, LaRavia explained what wearing purple and gold truly means to him.

“I said it when I got here — it means something to have ‘Lakers’ written across your chest,” LaRavia said.
“I grew up with my dad in a family of Lakers fans. I understand the impact of playing for this team, the impact it has on fans who come out to watch us every night. I wear Lakers colors with pride every single night.”

It wasn’t scripted. It wasn’t flashy. It was genuine — and that’s exactly why fans connected with it.

Producing on the court, too

LaRavia’s words haven’t come without substance on the floor.

So far this season, the former Grizzlies and Kings forward has appeared in 32 games for the Lakers, starting 11 times and averaging 25.9 minutes per game. He’s posting 9.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per night, while shooting 32% from three-point range.

His best performance in purple and gold came against his former team on Friday night. Playing 37 minutes, LaRavia finished with:

  • 21 points
  • 9 rebounds
  • 8-for-12 shooting
  • 2 steals
  • 1 block

He was one of the Lakers’ most impactful players on both ends of the floor, combining effort, confidence, and energy.

Why moments like this matter

In an era where branding often overshadows connection, LaRavia’s gesture felt refreshing. Wearing Lakers gear made for fans wasn’t about fashion — it was about identity.

He isn’t trying to be the star. He’s trying to be part of the Lakers story.

For a franchise built on history, pride, and emotional attachment, that mindset matters. And for fans who grew up dreaming of wearing those same colors, Jake LaRavia’s message was clear:

He’s one of them.
